Job Description:

CDM Smith, Inc., a multi-national engineering design and construction firm, is looking to hire a Geologist with expertise in geothermal wellfield design and construction, groundwater modeling evaluations and studies, and subsurface explorations.

As a member of our Infrastructure Services Group and as part of our Geotechnical Engineering unit, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:

  • Performing and signing off on basic to highly complex geological/geohydrological testing and evaluations, reviewing draft assessments and calculations for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Ensuring that firm policies and practices are followed on all assessments.

  • Serving as subject matter expert on geothermal well field design and geothermal systems including directing staff and subcontractors on geothermal test wells and system components.

  • Coordinating with CDM Smith’s energy and mechanical engineers during design and construction of geothermal systems.

  • Contributing to the firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Submitting technical papers and articles to technical journals for publication and making presentations at conferences.

  • Assisting Client Service Leaders and Project Managers in expanding and selling geothermal services to existing and potential new clients. Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs). Reviewing draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices. Meeting with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.

  • Attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.

  • Providing technical guidance, training, and mentoring to junior staff to help them develop skills for future growth within the discipline and firm.

  • Performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline. Registration as a licensed Professional Geologist, as certified by ASBOG, within the resident state, if available, or a surrounding state, if not, is required for geologist positions.

  • 12 years of related experience.

  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science or Arts degree in Geology or related discipline.

  • IGSHPA Certified Geothermal Designer and Inspector
