Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) ASSEMBLER in Watervliet, New York


About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army owned and operated manufacturing center located in NY. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813.Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benét Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility


Work with engineering personnel to evaluate the effectiveness of assembly and disassembly procedures for mission and non-mission items.

Modify, assemble, repair and service experimental and prototype artillery components.

Check dimensions to determine compliance with blue-print requirements by adapting standard gages.

Set up and operate pantographic engraving machines.

Assist in developing the requisite mechanical aids.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ASSEMBLER without more than normal supervision: (1) Perform a variety of bench and assembly operations on components, sub-assemblies, and/or assemblies of items, (2) Assemble prototype or experimental components, (3) Correct/adjust assembly process based on hang up points and diagnostic tests. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Most parts and assemblies which are lifted or carried average 15-25 lbs. Weight handling equipment or the assistance of other workers is available for heavy lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shops that are drafty and noisy. Stands on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Exposed to abrasive dust, cuts and bruises from handling components and injury from moving crane loads and flying particles.

Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Career Program (CP) 17 - Assembler position.
