Provides administrative decisions and guidance to ensure successful program implementation. Supervises all aspects of Student Support Services. Serves as an active member of the Student Affairs team. Dedicated to implementing the College’s TRIO Student Support Services grant.

The major responsibilities of the SSS Director include but are not limited to the following:
• Prepares and monitors departmental budgets and approves operating expenses. Will meet once a semester or as needed to review the program budget with the Comptroller & Assistant Treasurer in the office of Financial Affairs and plan expenditures over the following semester in these meetings.
• Meets weekly with staff to discuss projects activities and review any issues with SSS participants.
• Will regularly meet with the staff of the Financial Aid Office to review the list and discuss possible internal/external remedies, seeking to ensure that UC has fully met the financial need of all SSS Students.
• Will work with the Assistant Director for Student Living and Engagement to develop at least 3 different LLCs designed for SSS participants.
• Will establish a procedure for students to apply for temporary housing assistance. The Director will schedule meetings with each SSS participant inquiring about this support to review his/her need to discuss temporary housing. The Director will investigate to verify if the student is homeless, formerly homeless or from foster care system. Once determined, the Director will work with the Executive Director of Student Living and College Engagement to remain in his/her residence hall at no additional costs.
• The Director or Assistant Director will meet monthly with the liaison recommended by the Provost, to address any issues related to coordination with faculty or academic staff.
• Will also be provided an ex officio roll on the Admission Committee and the Academic Standards Committee since both are focused on efforts to improve the retention and academic success of UC students.
• Will be aware of any new policies or decisions that might affect the community of SSS participants.
• Will have access to the Navigate page for each of the SSS participants so that they might engage in dialogue as needed with faculty and staff members.
• Will meet as needed with the Director of Financial Aid to discuss students at risk of leaving UC for financial reasons.
• Will collaborate with the OIR (Office of Institutional Research) and the Dean of Assessment to collect all relevant quantitative data from Admissions, the Office of the Registrar, the Financial Aid Office, Center for Career and Professional Development and the Center for Student Success.
• Participates in regular meetings with the heads of offices within the Division of Student Affairs.
• Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. • Will participate in the Student Affairs Directors meetings and activities. • Will prepare all required reports to be submitted to the TRIO office. • Other duties as assigned.
This position does not require routine travel using a College-owned or College-rented vehicle.
Supervises • All staff in the Office of Student Support Services which includes the Assistant Director, Tutoring Specialist, Retention Specialist and Administrative Assistant.
Education & Experience Qualifications
• Graduate level degree required in educational leadership or administration; or social work, counseling or development studies; or a subject area with immediate and demonstrable relevance to assisting low-income, first-generation, or disabled students. • At least two or more years of experience administering TRIO projects or programs preferred; or similar grant funded programs focused on serving the needs of low-income, first-generation, and/or disabled students. • 1-3-years experience working with academic programming, academic support services or related area required. • Experience in assessment and/or program evaluation required.
The position requires excellent project management skills and the ability to stay on task. The Director position also requires strong communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work collegiality and collaboratively across a variety of offices and with several external partners, including the DOE. The person in this position will possess strong prioritization skills. The Director will also pay a great deal of attention to details, have the ability to meet strict deadlines, be adaptive and flexible, have the capacity to handle sensitive information, be able to garner support for new programs and initiatives, and exercise excellent independent judgement. Some travel may be required, especially as it relates to DOE-sponsored programs. The Director must be able to work evenings and weekends on occasion and drive to various locations as necessary.
