The Superconducting Magnet Division (SMD) designs, builds, and tests superconducting magnets for use in particle accelerators world-wide. The SMD also builds magnets for various other applications (e.g., Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) and provides magnetic measurement services lab-wide.
The Superconducting Magnet Division has an opening for an experienced Cryo-Mechanical Technician to handle the cryogens, compressors, helium liquefiers, while utilizing various electro-mechanical skills. In this role, you will be expected to conduct diagnostics utilizing LabView (training to be provided). This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and repair cryogenic compressors, liquefiers, control valves, electronic controls, plumbing work, and work with pipefittings (training provided)
Experience with handling of compressed gas and cryogens
Experience with precision machining and machine tools (Lathes, milling machines, drill presses)
Fabrication of electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and perform work from mechanical assembly drawings
Stock and maintain inventory of spare parts
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Equivalence of an Associate degree or technical institute certificate in a related field
Six (6) years of full-time relevant work experience
Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electromechanical control valves and positioners
Basic computer operating skills (MS Office Suite), including Excel and Word
Clear and concise communication skills
Ability to work in varied shifts
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with helium liquefication system operations and repairs
Electrical skills, such as soldering, wiring, enclosure design
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
Individual must be able to work at heights on a ladder of up to 5 feet
A valid US Drivers' license is required
