Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracue Inc COOK I in Syracuse, New York

The Rescue Mission is seeking atemporary full-time cookto workMonday – Fridayfor our Downtown Syracuse location. The successful candidate should have basic knowledge and understanding of menu planning, basic knife skills, understanding of food cost, able to read and follow standardized recipes. Responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. Responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.

Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Determine amount and type of food and supplies required using production systems.

  • Ensure availability of supplies and food or approved substitutions in adequate time for preparation.

  • Set steam table; serve or ensure proper serving of food for tray line or dining room.

  • Store food properly and safely, marking date and item.

  • Correctly prepare all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders.

  • Supports and implements specific procedures to ensure safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED, 2-5 years experience in food service institutional/restaurant, strong working knowledge of restaurant safety and equipment

  • Knowledge of large-scale menu planning, product ordering and food preparation

  • Proficient knowledge of Combi Oven and Cook Chill Systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Communication skills; able to speak and write clearly and directly

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Decision-making and creative problem-solving capabilities

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills

  • Manages time efficiently; responds quickly to time-sensitive issues

  • Maintains a calm professional presence

  • Guest-focused; service oriented

Shift Schedule:

  • Monday & Tuesday 6a - 2:30p

  • Wednesday & Thursday 9a – 5:30p

  • Friday 6a – 2:30p

  • Saturday & Sunday OFF
