What You'll Do:
Function of Beauty is looking for a hands-on and analytical Senior Chemist to help drive our business growth and product initiatives. The role will report to our Chief Scientist where you will assist in the day-to-day operations across multiple product lines; primarily hair care, with the opportunity to get involved with much more! This position is based out of our headquarters in Soho, NYC.
What You Need:
At least 5 years of experience formulating a wide range of hair care and other personal care products.
Self-starter with proven ability to effectively lead projects from concept to launch, execute tasks within defined programs timelines and work independently with limited oversight.
Familiar with GLP, GMP, QA, and QC personal care industry best practices.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated exceptional aptitude towards understanding consumer insights and applying them towards the development of superior product designs.
Familiar with formulation and raw material regulatory guidelines and restrictions, specifically for NA and EU.
Exhibit excellent organization, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
Strong interpersonal, written/verbal, and presentation skills.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Independently formulate customized personal care (hair and/or skin) products to meet objectives outlined in program briefs. Ensure physical stability, efficacy, consumer appeal, processing capabilities, package compatibility, and cost effectiveness.
Develop innovative products utilizing available technologies and ingredients, and creative thinking to develop formulas which meet the needs of consumers.
Engage in research activities to identify raw materials and technologies to help build a consumer-centric strategy for delivering high quality customized products.
Identify and evaluate leading products in the market to understand approaches and likely consumer expectations on performance attributes, physical properties of products, and instructions for use.
Interact with raw material vendors and other industry representatives to further expand on the understanding of their products, technologies, and services.
Lead or support transfer of technology to manufacturing facilities for scale-up and production, including providing finalized formulas in a batch record, ingredients (pricing, MOQ, lead times, contact info) to procurement and production to enable planning and ordering for piloting and full production.
Work with Junior Chemists and Lab Technicians to promote their growth and provide a path for them to succeed.
Anticipate potential manufacturing issues and establish an action plan with the supervisor and technical team.
