The Specialized Nursing Technician works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The Specialized Nursing Technician performs assigned patient care tasks and other related unit duties, defined, and delegated under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Other responsibilities include in performing clerical, receptionist, communication and patient care duties (when appropriate) as directed. The Specialized Nursing Technician maintains the patient record “paper” chart as a medical-legal document, on the inpatient unit, according to Medical Center policy and procedures. Assists in organizing and communicating inter and intra-departmentally to achieve optimum patient care. Responsibilities also include maintaining an orderly and equipped Nursing Unit.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized Nursing
Assistant Program or equivalent preparation and/or experience
Minimum Experience: Computer proficiency preferred. 1 year of prior acute care experience preferred or CNA or completion of first clinical course in RN program.
Required Certification/Registration: Current and ongoing BLS. CNA certificate preferred if experience is minimal.
Physical Demands: Work is primarily walking and standing. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patient. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Ability to pass pre-hire physical assessment. (See attached).
Working Conditions: Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. May be exposed to
unpleasant patient elements. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
and occasionally to irregular work hours. Will also be responsible for working at the nursing station with computers, telephones and intercommunication system and files.
