American Water Supervisor, Water Quality & Environmental Compliance in Merrick, New York
An exciting position with New York American Water and our Water Quality team! If you have a passion for the environment and serving your community, this is the role for you! This position will be responsible for obtaining water samples, working in a laboratory testing, interfacing with customers, and working across various departments. A Water Quality specialist will work in the field, office, and lab. Shift is Monday-Friday, dayshift and occasional emergency call-outs. Primary Role*
Carries out day to day oversight and management of personnel or multiple operations to continually meet all Water Quality and/ or Clean Water Act Requirements for the Hudson Valley Operations.
Provides technical support on water quality, treatment, permitting,laboratory management, sampling, and regulatory compliance issues for the Hudson Valley Operations.
Ensures that Comapny policy on water quality and related regulatory emvironmental complaince matters are met for the Hudson Valley Operations.
Key Accountabilities*
Assists local, State and Federal regulatory agencies during inspections. Responds (on-call) to Water Quality problems, taking appropriate corrective action including documentation to advise management. Ensures that customer complaints or inquiries are properly addressed to attempt to resolve any issues.
Reports on problems and issues regarding Water Quality and standards by reviewing lab testing and operational reports.
Assures that policies, programs, standards of performance and approved objectives related to water quality are adhered to.
Assists with training of plant operating staff, field services and other water quality personnel in treatment practices and environmental initiatives.
Supports water quality activities related to the Environmental
Management Program to ensure compliance with SDWA/CWA regulations are continually met. Confirmation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual sampling plans are completed – With NYAW and Contracted Operators
Conduct special projects and prepare reports.
Supports implementation of cross connection for the Hudson Valley Operations
Knowledge/Skills*
Strong working knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment processes. Thorough knowledge of water quality and environmental regulations affecting the business. Familiar with SDWIS and Comprehensive Sampling Plan scheduling.
MS Office (especially EXCEL, WORD, and PowerPoint), {LIMS and SAP helpful}
Experience/Education*
Two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in water, and/or wastewater, and laboratory operations.
Minimum of bachelor’s degree with major in Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Environmental Science or equivalent other environmental area (Microbiology, Environmental Engineering, etc.).
Travel Requirements*
Must hold valid Driver’s License. Up to 25% of time for potential travel.
Other*
Must be able to distinguish colors to conduct testing using normal colorimetric and electrochemistry methods.
