Modern Corporation Driver Supervisor in Buffalo, New York

Modern Corporation is looking for a candidate with leadership skills who wants to grow their career! The Driver Supervisor is responsible for the management of a group of drivers to ensure safe services to customers.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Organize and schedule all necessary resources required to accomplish activities. Coordinates daily operational needs with Maintenance team.

  • Review weekly demand /volume for routes, determines potential gains from re-routing, and recommends re-routes to the routing specialist.

  • Sets and monitors productivity, service, and safety targets for each route and driver.

  • Using a high level of independent judgment and calculated risk, anticipate issues and make necessary adjustments, timely decisions, rapid responses to changes and problems.

  • Manage the end-of-day check-in process, capture and communicate key service, safety, and equipment issues.

  • Document problem fixes and provides instructions to dispatch/service should problems recur.

  • Notify customer service of delivery days for specific areas, ensure set-up errors and missed pickups are reported and resolved.

  • Coordinate repairs/maintenance with Maintenance Shop and ensure equipment that is unsafe is removed from service.

  • Document and maintain records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.

  • Coach all staff on safety requirements, ensure safety compliance, and take appropriate action to address safety violations.

  • If an incident occurs, including a near miss, participate in the investigation and employee performance management issues and follow-up regarding the incident with the appropriate personnel.

  • Conduct Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline, corrective actions and retraining.

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Assist the company in the recruitment of employees as company plans and openings develop and warrant.

  • Supervise and manage performance; ensure tasks are appropriately delegated and completed by monitoring performance and holding employees accountable for meeting expectations.

  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations, engage HR when appropriate.

  • Train and develop staff, provide constructive performance feedback and take appropriate corrective action to address performance issues.

  • Manage conflict and crisis; proactively anticipate, manage and constructively resolve conflicts and disagreements.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with employees to share information, establish partnerships, and leverage expertise to accomplish company goals.

  • Hold regular team meetings (i.e. daily, weekly huddle meetings) to communicate priorities, safety, policies, company events, etc.

  • Monitor employee time and attendance, minimizing overtime and ensuring that employees do not exceed limits established by regulatory agencies.

  • Regularly meet with direct supervisor to maintain ongoing communication and optimum personal performance.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED, Associate‚Äôs Degree preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations

  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills both one-on-one and in speaking before a group.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all company divisions in a way that promotes supervisory success as well as overall company success.

  • Strength in initiative-taking, and a demonstrated track record in proactively identifying improvement opportunities and acting upon them.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks demanding of immediate attention, and to juggle multiple, on-going, concurrent responsibilities.

  • Ability to work efficiently and maximize productivity.

  • Commitment to integrity and ethical behavior and the proven ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Competency in the following computer programs: MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
