But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

The Tenant Services Coordinator/Office Manager will be responsible for petty cash, check requisitions, billing, scheduling, and file maintenance for The Brook, a supportive housing residence which consists of 160 studio units. This position will also be responsible for writing letters and correspondence, maintaining tenant data, and other office support functions including annual tenant recertification. The incumbent is an important point of contact for The Brook tenants and will coordinate program planning which includes organizing tenant participation in planned activities/workshops and providing community outreach as needed. They will interact closely with social service partner staff and collaborate with outside organizations. The incumbent will also work closely with The Brook’s building management, Property Management, Leasing & Compliance, Finance, and other Breaking Ground departments.

Breaking Ground’s mission is to strengthen individuals, families and communities by developing and sustaining exceptional supportive and affordable housing as well as programs for homeless and other vulnerable New Yorkers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as initial source of contact for tenant questions and direct to other staff as needed

  • Maintain petty cash, billing, check request and Metro cards

  • Attend building meetings as requested and take minutes

  • Maintain client data, filing system, and office supplies; this includes keeping an updated file of vendors

  • Oversee development and implementation of programs and activities for tenants; this includes maintaining building activity calendars

  • Coordinate and work with social service staff counterpart in developing and producing monthly building newsletter and monthly reports

  • Design, plan, and run events both on site and off site in accordance with the rich programing required by our grant and funders

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years related work experience; experience working with homeless/formerly homeless populations preferred

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work with a diverse/special needs population

  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Must have exceptional written and verbal skills

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and databases

  • Notary strongly preferred, or ability to take notary exam within 60 days of hire
