TITLE: Senior Retail Lending Underwriter

LOCATION: Headquarters

REPORTS TO: VP – Bank Operations

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Non Exempt

AVAILABILITY: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm

Position Summary:

Performs administrative duties related to loan processing, underwriting, closing and funding. Evaluates loan applications to determine credit worthiness of the applicant, approve and decline loans within authorized approval limits based upon guidelines set forth by Bank and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Ensures that the underwriting decision meets the requirements of the bank and government agencies. Performs quality assurance and/or re-underwriting on all purchased mortgages. Ensures loan documentation is complete and accurate and that loan declinations meet applicable consumer credit laws. Prepares loan closing documents and checks. Enters loans in Horizon and balances applicable general ledger accounts. Works closely with Retail Loan Operations staff to ensure turnaround times and compliance requirements are met.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Reviews new loan applications for completeness and accuracy. Ensures initial loan disclosures were generated and completed correctly by branch staff.

  2. Completes OFAC check, review initial demographic information, review initial disclosures for accuracy and assure at all times government and regulatory rules and regulations are in compliance.

  3. Processes incoming emails and update loans accordingly.

  4. Prepares closing documents and review completed closing documents for accuracy and upload them into Encompass.

  5. Manages disbursement calendar for funding dates.

  6. Funds closed loans, order customer checks when applicable and prepare equity mortgages and send them out for recording to County Clerks.

  7. Downloads mortgage files using the Virtual Strongbox sent from Homestead Funding and upload them into Encompass system.

  8. Reviews, for quality control purposes, mortgage files being purchased to insure proper documentation is received and completes a critical field check on all purchased mortgages.

  9. Identifies approval conditions and prepares commitment letters outlining those conditions.

  10. Processes, underwrites, approves and declines new and modified loans within authorized approval limits based on guidelines set forth by Bank and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) within 72 hours of receipt.

  11. Orders, retrieves, reviews and evaluates appraisals based on comparisons or adverse conditions in order to ensure adequate value of the collateral. Verifies appraiser eligibility status as they are received from various vendors.

  12. Orders title insurance/title rundowns, inspections, credit reports, flood certifications, andhome equity line of credit(HELOC) checks, when necessary to maintain service standards and to meet deadlines.

Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Business or equivalent preferred.

  2. 10 years’ banking experience required, preferably with Retail Lending background.

  3. 7 years’ lending underwriting experience required.

  4. Accuracy with data entry and filing is essential. Experience with data entry preferred.

  5. Knowledge of MSWord is required. Familiarity with Excel and Microsoft windows applications preferred.
